NTSA summons matatu operators filmed harassing woman and her child
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned a driver and conductor of a Meru matatu filmed harassing a woman and her child for allegedly declining to squeeze on the seats to create space for excess passengers.
NTSA, through a statement, stated that they had directed Meru Shuttle Limited officials to present the crew members of the vehicle registration number KBU 254G to their Meru County offices on Monday 9am.
This comes following uproar from Kenyans online for police to take action after the matatu driver and conductor, in the 1:50-minute video, were seen forcing the woman and the minor out of the vehicle while hurling obscenities at her.
One of the passengers, at one point, even pleads with the driver to consider that the woman has a child but he rudely responds saying “sitaki kujua!” (I don’t want to know!)
During the exchange, the woman is heard asking for her balance of Ksh.50 but the conductor at first seems adamant to give it to her before finally giving in after the intervention of a passenger.
She then seemingly threatens to report them saying “niko na number yenu” (I have your vehicle registration number) to which the conductor boastfully retorts “namba ya gari ata naweza kutolea uende nayo” (I can even remove the registration plates for you to go with.)

And when the government cracks the whip against rogue matatus and drivers, they claim the government is harassing them. Isn't the law clear on how many passengers PSVs should carry.? And I'm even more appalled that the other passengers were okay with all of that!!!!!
