NTSA to suspend licenses of traffic offenders

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned that drivers caught breaking traffic rules will have their licenses suspended.

In a statement on Thursday, NTSA cited a crackdown on rogue drivers in Nyeri where motorists were arrested and charged in court.

Several motorists were earlier today arrested, vehicles impounded and motor vehicle owners charged in court following a crackdown by NTSA and the police in Nyeri,” the statement reads.

NTSA reports that Nyeri is among the top ten counties where car accidents are most prevalent, hence the crackdown.

The affected motorists were reportedly charged with operating without valid motor vehicle inspection stickers and failing to comply with the Traffic Act.

Their licenses are to be reinstated after passing another driving test.

A taxi driver was also arrested for operating his car without the required Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badge.

Other motorists are to be arraigned on Friday to answer to different charges.

Some responses to the NTSA notice on Twitter are shown below:

Peter Muriuki Kairu said on Twitter, ”Until that time you will address miraa probox and pickups which flout traffic rules left right,we consider these other moves as theatrics.”

Yet to see the crack down extended to govt vehicles and the big rides,” Anthony Kibe said.

“This should be an ongoing exercise to achieve the UN millennium road safety goals. We have so many dangerous drivers on our roads today.Unleash your ‘nyahunyo’” Karuga wa Njuguna said.
