NTSA suspends Grand Bus Service Sacco licence after Garissa-Mwingi Road accident

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has now suspended the operating licence for the Grand Bus Service Sacco after one of their vehicles was early Monday morning involved in an accident on Garissa-Mwingi Road.

Ten people died on the spot and 4 others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment after the bus – registration number KCS 417A – rammed into a trailer carrying cement that had stalled on the road.

NTSA, in a statement to newsrooms, said preliminary investigations had revealed that the trailer driver had not placed any warning signs on the road to alert oncoming motorists on the presence of the stalled vehicle.

“The bus driver drove without due care considering that the road section is straight and flat. The driver should have seen the reflective chevrons and take appropriate action to avoid the crash,” added NTSA.

While suspending the Grand Bus Services Sacco operator’s licence, the authority further directed the company’s officials to submit a comprehensive incident report by May 14, 2019.

NTSA also suspended the driving licenses of the truck driver – identified as Abdullahi Sugow Muhuned — and the bus driver —  Osman Ali Guhad – pending investigations.
