NTSA suspends Transline Sacco licence following fatal crash

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operation license for all vehicles belonging to Transline Sacco following the Friday night Mai-Mahiu crash that claimed 9 lives on Friday night.

Speaking to the media on Saturday afternoon, NTSA Director Francis Meja said the matatu was not licensed to operate at night.

“We will be preferring charges against Transline Sacco and for those caught driving at the wrong time. This is a question of discipline, and it is unfortunate that this continues to happen,” the NTSA director said.

Meja noted saccos must take responsibility of their vehicles and all their members.

“We mourn with the family and friends of the lost lives,” Meja said.

The NTSA director announced that the authority will provide phone number that members of the public can SMS to confirm whether car they are travelling in is licensed.

Meja stated that the commercial service regulations are now ready and will soon be Gazetted in a view to address road accidents.
