Nurses down tools in Kapsabet

Services in Kapsabet Referral Hospital were paralysed on Wednesday after nurses downed their tools demanding payment of their salaries for the last two months.

They have also claimed that nepotism plays a key factor in the county’s recruitment and promotion process.

Nandi county branch secretary Mr. Amos Ng’etich said their reputations were dented over allegations that they had stolen medicine from the hospital.

He stated that the allegations are just rumors which are meant to destroy their reputations.

The health workers are also dissatisfied as some machines at the hospital are not functioning for lack of reagents which cost around Ksh 50,000.

They have also raised concerns on the process of employment which they claim is marred by irregularities.

The patients were forced out of the hospital resulting in them seeking medication elsewhere.

Some of the patients who were admitted and were unable to walk urged the county government to take them home so that they can get treatment elsewhere.

The hospital workers then proceeded to the county government offices seeking to be addressed by Governor Cleophas Lagat.

This comes a week after Kiambu health workers downed their tools protesting over delayed pay and they vowed to stay away from their workstations despite hundreds of patients flocking to the facility with no assistance.
