Nyachae Tells Boinett to Halt Police Recruitment

CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae has written to Boinett to stop the enrolment of the 10,000 police recruits until a case challenging the selection process is concluded.

Nyachae has advised the police boss to consult with the Attorney General’s office, the National Police Service (NPS) and the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to ensure the enrolment of the recruits adheres to the constitution.

Boinett has directed the 10,000 recruits to report to training camps this Sunday although the High Court stopped the recruitment process due to a court case over bribery claims during the selection exercise.

High level consultations

This comes just two days after Attorney General Githu Muigai said the government is engaged in high-level consultations following President’s directive ordering for the immediate training of 10,000 police recruits whose enrolment was halted by the High Court.

AG Muigai said that they were in consultations with the relevant stakeholders to address the validity of the President’s directive after a section of leaders and organizations raised concerns on the same.

The enrolment of the 10,000 police recruits was stopped after claims of massive irregularities and corruption in the selection process were raised.

The AG said the President’s directive is for the good of the nation and should not be politicized.
