Nyagah turned back for not disclosing address, Kaluyu fails to show up

Former State House adviser Joseph Nyagah on Sunday failed to obtain clearance from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the presidency, after his documents were found to have missing details.

Nyagah – who was the fourth amongst 10 candidates scheduled to present their papers to the poll body in a two-day exercise – failed to provide the physical address of his residence and his running mate’s certificate of good conduct.

IEBC directed him to fill in the details and return the papers on Monday, May 29 for approval.

Earlier on Sunday, the commission declined to approve Abduba Dida’s papers for failure to certify his degree certificate and presenting unauthenticated self-declaration form.

Dida was later cleared after fulfilling the requirements.

The Commission cleared three candidates for the presidency: Dr. Ekuru Aukot, Raila Odinga and Abduba Dida, on the first day of verifying papers for presidential candidates.

The fifth candidate who was scheduled to appear before the commissioners on Sunday at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Japhet Kavinga Kaluyu, failed to turn up for the exercise.

President Uhuru Kenyatta alongside four other candidates in the 2017 State House race have been lined up to appear before the commission on Monday, May 29.

IEBC is expected to scrutinise papers of more than 16 000 candidates before the closure of the exercise on June 20.
