Nyamira MCA charged with defiling 17-year-old girl

A Nyamira Member of County of Assembly (MCA) was on Monday charged with defiling a 17-year-old girl.

Appearing before Nyamira Law Courts, Magwagwa MCA Fred Nyachae Omayio denied the charges and was detained for seven days pending bail ruling.

The court heard that heard that on the night of September 2-3, the MCA allegedly defiled the minor at a guest house in Kisii town.

Mr. Omayio also faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a minor contrary to Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006.

The accused, through his lawyer Omoke Morara, prayed to be released so as to resume his duties as well as to receive treatment for blood pressure.

The prosecution however opposed this request saying the MCA would interfere with witnesses in the case.

The court will on Monday next week rule on bond terms.
