Nyandarua MCAs impeach majority leader, deputy and chief whip

Nyandarua Members of County Assembly (MCAs) on Monday impeached the majority house leaders accusing them of non-performance.

Majority Leader Peter Gathungu, his deputy Ken Mukira, and Majority Chief Whip Hussein Ndung’u were stripped of their positions and immediately replaced with new leaders who were elected during a closed-door meeting of Jubilee MCAs held in Nakuru.

The over 20 MCAs elected Edinald King’ori of North Kinangop Ward as the new Majority leader to be deputised by Justus Gaita of Kiriita Ward.

The new Majority Chief Whip will be nominated member Lucy Methu who was formerly the Deputy Chief Whip with her previous position now being taken over by Geoffrey Ngaruiya of Rurii Ward.

Addressing the press after the meeting, Engineer Ward MCA Samwel Njatha said the ousted leaders were ejected from office for precipitating division among the MCAs.

Mr. Njatha further said that preparations were underway for a motion to impeach Governor Francis Kimemia.

Outgoing Majority Leader Peter Gathungu, who was the most blamed for troubles at the Assembly, was also accused of supporting a motion reportedly portraying Jubilee Party Leader President Uhuru Kenyatta in bad light. The motion had been introduced by David Maitai, an independent legislator.
