Nyandarua MCAs In Leadership Wrangles

On Thursday, the MCAs ousted James Mwangi Gichuki and Peter Githinji Ngumba as majority and minority leaders respectively for what they termed as inefficiency and failing to communicate effectively to the members.

Moments after their ouster, the duo moved to court seeking an order to allow them continue serving in their positions and barring MCAs from interfering with their office.

On Wednesday, the members of the county assembly voted out the two and the county assembly service board for failing to discharge their duties, claims of nepotism in employment and corruption.

They were replaced by Murungaru ward MCA Muchiri Kariuki as the majority leader and Ol Kalou MCA Kamau Ngotho as the minority leader.

In a swift move, the MCAs have now vowed to challenge the court order and have the two ousted claiming that the move to vote them out was legal and due procedures had been followed.

The MCAs also want the County Assembly Public Service Board (CAPSB) be compelled to stop transacting any activity of the assembly among them employment of new staff and procurement of services until the matter is heard and resolved.

Speaking to the press outside the county assembly, over 30 MCAs said they will move to the high court to have the injunction revoked.

Their spokesman, Rurii Ward County Representative Peter Wahome Kamoche said the assembly had followed all the laid down procedures to ouster the two and wondered why the courts were issuing an injunction.

Kamoche said the move was prompted by failure of the duo to communicate effectively to members especially on matters touching on the Kshs. 2 million car loan and another Kshs. 3 million in house mortgage for every MCA, a transaction conducted between Chase Bank and the County Assembly Public Service Boards (CASPB).

He said the communication between the two institutions and report on the transactions is yet to be tabled on the floor of the House.
