Nyandarua MCAs to keep Deputy Governor busy

Nyandarua County Assembly on Thursday passed a motion likely to end wrangles between the County Governor Daniel Waithaka and his Deputy Waithaka Mwangi Kirika.

The Deputy has in the past been complaining that he has not been assigned duties by his boss hence triggering misunderstandings between the two leaders.

The motion prepared by the Assembly Inter-Governmental Relations and Coordination Committee places several departments including Liaison office, Policy makers, Chief of Staff and Principal Administration Secretary under the Deputy Governor’s office.

Speaking when moving the motion, the Committee chair Kieru Wambui said the new developments will make the office of the Deputy Governor relevant in the current dispensation.

“This could be the solution of the wrangles between the office of the Governor and his Deputy,” he said.

“The Deputy Governor will now have more work to do due to the institutions placed under him to perform functions stipulated in Section 32 of the County Government Act,” he added.

Kieru observed that even Deputy President William Ruto is busy because there are technocrats under his office to advise him on what to do every day.

“We need such officers for that office to function and for posterity, otherwise it will actually be an irrelevant office,” he said.

The assembly also changed a proposed structure by the executive which had put it under the Office of the Governor terming it as constitutional.

The debate is set to resume next Tuesday when the Assembly reconvenes.
