Nyandarua politician in court over alleged incitement to violence

A Nyandarua politician was Friday afternoon arraigned before a Nyahururu Court and charged with inciting the public to cause violence which is contrary to Section 96 (a) of the Penal Code.

The politician was accused of inciting members of the public to protest against police officers accused of laxity in handling crime.

Appearing before Nyahururu Resident Magistrate Margaret Mwangi, the accused, Moses Mwaura Ndegwa, denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000 with a surety of similar amount.

The case will be heard on August 24th, 2016.

Prior to his arrest, Ndegwa was among other protesters who staged peaceful demonstration at Mairo-Inya township demanding justice over rising insecurity.

The residents on Wednesday barricaded the Nyahururu-Nyeri Road where they lit born fires protesting rising cases of insecurity and accused police officers of colluding with criminals.

The demonstration came following the killing of three people in the last two weeks under unclear circumstances yet no suspect had been arrested.
