Nyanza IDPs to receive compensation from gov’t

The Network of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Nyanza region has embarked on a sensitization programme to enlighten their members on matters of financial management ahead of government compensation.

According to the Chairman of Nyanza IDPs Network, Nelson Owegi, the government has finally agreed to compensate Integrated IDPs, they are currently doing the exercise in Siaya County to prepare their members ahead of the payment.

Owegi further revealed that during the sensitization programmes, their members will also get opportunity to counter check their details in the government’s list of potential beneficiaries adding that this will help them identify the genuine IDPs.

Owegi, who was speaking during a meeting in Bondo town, called upon their members to ensure they attend the sensitization forums to confirm their details so as to be able to benefit from the government’s compensation.

The chair also noted that the larger Nyanza region, which comprises the Luo-Nyanza counties together with Kisii and Nyamira counties, has registered slightly over 20,000 integrated IDPs who will each carry home Ksh 50,000 once the government begins effecting the compensation.

Owegi was flanked by the representative of Women in the network, Mrs Maureen Opondo, who on her part pleaded with the youth not to allow the politicians to use them to create chaos during this electioneering period.
