Nyatike flood victims accuse govt of slow response
Residents of Nyatike Constituency are now blaming the government for its apparently slow response after homes were submerged by floods.
They lamented that rescue centers in Nyora, Kabuto and Modi have not even been established to accommodate over 300 displaced people.
According to Mr. Odewe Andrew, Community Flood Management Committee chairman, flood victims have not been able to access food, medical care among other basic needs.
He reiterated that the victims have been forced to seek refuge in a church which lacks enough toilets to accommodate their large number.
They now fear that disease outbreaks will emerge and are urging the government to assist them before the situation gets out of hand.
Nyora Primary School headteacher Jabes Aluoch said learning activities in most primary schools have been paralysed.
“Class attendance is very poor in Nyora and Kabuto has been largely affected as many pupils and teachers are not able to wade through the high waters.
Speaking to Radio Ramogi on Thursday, Migori County Chief in charge of Disaster Joshua Ngwala called on residents to vacate flooded areas to avoid being swept away.
