Simiyu said that meetings and conferences will generate revenue for the counties even as leisure tourism faces challenges.

He said that the conference which would be constructed in Nyeri would be an income generating business for the locals as it will transform their lives.

The MD noted that Nyeri County, being the home to great names such as Baden Powell and Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi had untapped opportunities that would market the county internationally.

At the same time, Simiyu said that Nyeri County being between two water towers, the Mt Kenya and the Aberdares can be a tourist attraction site.

He added that the conference centre will also act as a good way of bringing in investors to Nyeri County.

Speaking during the event, County Governor Nderitu Gachagua said that local investors will be given the first priority in giving support facilities to the centre.

He added that the county will take advantage of Nyaribo airport whose runway is being expanded from 1.5 kilometers to 3 kilometers to bring in tourists direct to Nyeri County.

He further said that besides enjoying meetings in Nyeri County, tourists will have the advantage of enjoying the scenic sites in the county.
