Nyeri launches Ksh 20B plan to transform town

The County Government of Nyeri has embarked on a Ksh 20-billion strategic Urban Development Plan to transform Nyeri town and its environs into an ultra-modern Green City.

The County Government has partnered with World Bank in changing the colonial outlook of the town which will be replaced by ultra modern buildings and roads.

According to Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathi and the County Executive Committee Member in charge of lands Robert Thuo, the plan was developed to help address traffic snarl up in the town, lack of piped water, unreliable sewage system, poor structures and congestion at the bus parks.

The plan, whose theme is; Moving Nyeri towards a well planned technologically and agri business flourishing town will see bus terminals relocated, old buildings demolished and replaced with modern ones while those that are identified as national heritage sites refurbished to ensure the town gets a facelift by 2034.

According to the plan, agricultural industries will be relocated to Chaka Township.
