Nyeri Magistrate denied bail in husband Robert Chesangs murder case

Senior Nyeri Magistrate Pauline Chesang was on Thursday denied bail in a case where she is accused of killing her husband lawyer Robert Chesang.

Appearing before Machakos judge David Kimei, Ms. Chesang was remanded at Athi River Police Station pending hearing of the matter on May 29, 2019.

Justice Kimei further stated that the matter will now be heard under a trial court in Machakos under Justice George Odunga where all the accused persons in the murder case will also be presented.

The deceased, Robert Chesang, was shot dead by armed men on February 17, 2019 at his Lukenya home in Machakos County.

Police officers, who spoke to Citizen Digital following the murder, said Mr. Chesang was alone when he was accosted and tortured before being killed, adding that seven spent cartridges of an AK47 rifle were recovered at the scene.

His wife was arrested and charged alongside three others among them retired National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer Laurence Metayo Lempesi, police constable Peter Muendo Mbithi and Alex Wanyonyi Wanyama.

Mr. Chesang was laid to rest on Saturday March 16, 2019 at Kalabata village, Baringo North, in a ceremony not attended by his wife or their two children.
