Nyeri MCAs sleep in county assembly over abduction fears

A majority of Members of the County Assembly from Nyeri County spent the night at the assembly chambers over what they termed as threats to their lives.

The 37 out of 46 MCAs, who are preparing to impeach Governor Nderitu Gachagua Friday, September 2, said that they could not risk going home as they would be abducted.

Friday morning, the MCAs were seen washing their faces, brushing their teeth and folding the blankets outside the assembly chambers.

Security has been beefed up at the assembly chambers with police and other security agents manning the area.

By 8:00am Friday, September 2, none of the MCAs opposing the Governor’s impeachment had arrived at the chambers despite the debate set to kick off at 9:30am.

The mover of the motion, Kiganjo Ward MCA Baragu Mutahi, has expressed confidence that they will send the county boss home.

On Thursday, Majority Leader Duncan Gituanja, said they decided to spend the night at the assembly after receiving threats of abduction from higher offices in the county.

Gachagua has been accused of gross violation of the Constitution, the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, and the Public Finance Management Act.
