Nyeri MPs withdraw Duale censure motion

Central Kenya Members of Parliament (MPs) have withdrawn a censure motion against National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.

The MPs now want to substitute the censure motion with a Bill that seeks compensation for victims of terror attacks.

The mover of the motion, Kieni MP Kanini Kega, said they have dropped the censure motion in order to push for a more beneficial one of seeking compensation for those killed in terror attacks in various Northern Kenya regions.

Kega stated that the decision, which will require the government to pay Ksh 5 million to victims’ families, was arrived at Thursday when the political leaders met at a Nairobi hotel.

He argued that this will also serve to compel the government to take extra measures in ensuring safety of all Kenyans wherever they are.

This comes two weeks after eight TNA MPs from Nyeri County vowed to push for his removal citing his failure to make public the list of terror financiers as pledged.

Several residents of Central Kenya have lost their lives in terror attacks in North Eastern region in the past few months.
