Nyeri suspends non-essential services for 30 days over COVID-19

The Nyeri county government has suspended all non-essential services by the county government for one month.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Governor Mutahi Kahiga said that the county had lost a senior officer in the department of housing and planning.

Five other officials within the county government are in hospital receiving treatment for COVID- 19.

Governor Kahiga said that only services touching on health, finance and emergency services will be offered without interruption.

All other members of staff not in these departments will now be required to work from home.

At the same time, staffers aged above 58 years including those in key areas of essential services will be allowed to work from home.

Additionally, the county government has asked them to get their COVID-19 vaccine from next week as the country receives more doses.

In a move to cushion business owners feeling the effects of the pandemic, the county has also waived penalties for those who had not paid for their business lincences as well as reducing the cost of the licenses by 50%.
