Nyeri: Woman arrested for allegedly killing her two children

Police in Mukurweini, Nyeri County have arrested a 28-year-old woman in relation to the mysterious death of her two children whose bodies were found on their farm.

Teresa Nyambura was arrested after failing to account for the whereabouts of the children aged seven and 10 who police say had signs of strangulation

Residents of Karimururi village in Mukurweini found the lifeless bodies of the two children Abigael Njoki, 10 and 7-year-old Joseph Kariuki on Tuesday at a farm which is about 300 metres from their home and which is owned by their family.

“On close scrutiny of the bodies of the two children it was established that there was signs of strangulation on the side of the girl and the boy had some vomit near where he was found,” said Mukurweini Sub-County commander Jesee Mwakiria.

Detectives who launched a probe into the incident arrested their mother Teresia Nyambura who failed to give accounts of the last moments of her children.

Nyambura’s father, however, maintained that her daughter was disturbed after she lost her job due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was unable to raise school fees for her children.

“Wakati shule zimegunguliwa alikuwa anasema hakuna school fees akaenda shuleni akaambiwa na headmaster awapelekee hii wiki,” said the woman’s father.

Police have been allowed to hold the suspect for the next 21 days as they conclude investigations.
