Nyeri woman who was stabbed 17 times by husband speaks out

A Nyeri Woman who sustained 17 knife wounds inflicted by her husband and who decided to forgive him has finally spoken out.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Friday, Peninah Wangeci explained why she moved to withdraw the case even as her family members insist that she was not in her right mind when making the decision.

Last week,Wangeci moved to withdraw an attempted murder case against Samuel Ndirangu who had left her for dead after a domestic row, saying that forgiving is the best decision.

The mother of three who spent months in nursing and care further added that she does not see the point of a case against the father of her children.

“You cannot be always in court with someone who we have children with…,” said Wangeci.

Back home in Othaya, her mother Loise Wambui tearfully remembers the pain they went through and insists that Wangeci is in no shape to withdraw the case, but her daughter disagrees.

Wangeci however insists it was a personal decision and calls upon her family members to accept her stand.

According to LSK Nyeri chapter chairman Wahome Gikonyo, withdrawal of such a case would require input from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

But if the withdrawal is done, a spouse is not a witness that can be compelled and family members cannot take the matter back to court.

“No other family member can go back to court, as they were not there…,” said Gikonyo.

While her mother is calling for the DPP to intervene and bring the matter back to court, Wangeci insists she wants nothing to do with it

The matter was scheduled to be back in court on October 30, 2019 before Wangeci withdrew the case.
