NYS funds theft culprits will pay dearly Uhuru says
President Uhuru Kenyatta now says all those found culpable in the recent corruption scandals at the National Youth Service will be dealt with decisively by the government.
Speaking during the pass-out parade of 9,039 recruits at the NYS Training School, Gilgil, the Head of State reiterated government’s commitment to support the youth service to overcome its current challenges, accusing rogue elements of derailing NYS projects through corruption.
“No individual can steal Kenya’s future. Yet this will not stop some from trying. But the rogue elements who try to subvert the dreams of our youth, and the future of our country, will always be overcome by our resilience,” said Uhuru.
Also present during the parade was Deputy President William Ruto who said that the government will increase youth empowerment projects under NYS to create more employment opportunities for them.
Youth and Gender Affairs CS Sicily Kariuki said the NYS training program has been reviewed to match the needs of the youth, further pointing out that the NYS Director General Richard Ndubai has undertaken to effectively use available funds at the service.
The Gilgil-based NYS Training Institute opted to send home more than 8,000 recruits until further communication after their graduation was delayed due to lack of funds for the ceremony.
NYS has been on the spotlight after corruption allegations rocked the institution leading to the resignation of former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru and former service boss Nelson Githinji.
