NYS scam: I am ready to cooperate, PS Omollo says

Youth Permanent Secretary Lillian Omollo has confirmed writing to President Uhuru Kenyatta to step aside and pave way for investigations into the latest billion-shilling scandal facing the National Youth Service (NYS).

Speaking to Citizen Digital, PS Omollo further indicated that she is ready to cooperate with investigating authorities probing the matter.

This comes just a day after Omollo and NYS Director General Richard Ndubai offered to step aside for 3 months.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Friday, President Kenyatta accepted the offer by the two to step aside for a period of three months to allow investigating agencies to complete their work.

The two are directly responsible for the functions of the NYS in the period being investigated.

According to the Daily Nation who broke the story, the money was allegedly siphoned from the institution in the last three years in a well-orchestrated scheme involving senior government officials and ghost suppliers.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) instituted investigations late last year and its findings reveal a trail of plundering of hard-earned taxpayers’ money.
