Court issues warrants of arrest against two NYS suspects

The Anti-Corruption Court has issued warrants of arrest against two directors of Arkroad Holdings, one of the alleged beneficiaries of the Ksh.9 billion National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogot on Monday ordered the police to arrest the two individuals, Antony Makara Wamiti and Peter Wagura Kimani, as soon as possible and present them to court.

This was after their attorney, Wandugi Kirathe, was unable to tell the court the whereabouts of his clients.

The two are said to have – through their company, Arkroad Holdings – unlawfully received payments worth Ksh.24, 866, 800 from the NYS for goods not supplied.

The warrants were issued as 20 more suspects were on Monday arraigned in court over the multi-billion shilling scandal.

The 20 follow the 23 suspects already charged last week among them Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo and NYS Director General Richard Ndubai.

The suspects are charged with, among others, conspiracy to commit an economic offence as well as abuse of office.

Those charged today include members of the Verification Committee as well as Acting Director of Finance and alternate AIE Holder at the NYS, Wellington Agenyu Lubira, who is accused of appoving unlawful payments for goods not supplied.
