Nzoia Sugar boss Michael Kulundu attacked, left for dead: police

Nzoia Sugar Company boss Michael Kulundu was kidnapped, tortured and left for dead by unknown assailants in Kanduyi, Bungoma town, police have said.

Sources revealed that Mr. Kulundu had been kidnapped on the Kanduyi-Webuye highway.

He was later found unconscious in a trench 100 metres from Salmond View restaurant.

The Nzoia Sugar Company boss was then taken to Bungoma West Hospital in Kanduyi town.

Dennis Sanday, a clinical administrator, said the patient that was brought in by his driver.

“Kulundu (54) suffered multiple injuries including a scar on the head, dislocated shoulder, cuts on the right hand, chest and lower limbs. He was in stable condition, we conducted the Cit scan and the X-Ray, he is in stable condition now but are transferring him to Aga Khan Kisumu for specialised treatment,” the medic said.

Secretary General of the Nzoia Sugar Company Workers Union Macdonald Wamacho and MCA Joram Wanjala (Bukembe East ward) visited Mr. Kulundu at the hospital.

They condemned the attack and called on police to move with speed and arrest the suspects.

“We understand there are brokers, those looking to eat from the company and those fighting the MD over privatisation issues, the incident might have followed that trend, let the government issue MDs with armed bodyguards,” Mr. Wamacho said.

According to Mr. Wamacho,  the three attackers were armed with AK 47 guns.

Bungoma County Police Commander Francis Sang said investigations are underway.
