Obado beats Ayacko to clinch Migori ODM gubernatorial ticket

Incumbent Migori County Governor Okoth Obado has won the Tuesday, April 24 ODM nominations after garnering 110, 142 votes ahead of his rival Ochilo Ayacko.

This comes amid protests by opponent Ochilo Ayacko who claims that the process is not free and fair.

Hours ago, Migori ODM County Returning Officer was stopped from releasing results by the Party’s Elections Dispute Tribunal over allegations of rigging.

Governor Obado, however, dismissed the move saying the party procedures should have been followed in handling the matter.

The Migori gubernatorial seat has been hotly contested with chaos being experienced before the primaries.

The race for Migori governor ticket attracted former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko, Anne Omodho Anyanga from Nyatike, and George Oywer from Uriri, among others.

Governor Obado who won the seat in 2013 using a PDP ticked had since decamped and joined ODM.

Early this month, Obado appeared before ODM’s disciplinary committee after being linked to chaos that rocked Migori during ODM Deputy Party Leader Hassan Joho’s visit of the county, resulting in the shooting and injuring of the Mombasa County chief’s bodyguard.

Trouble ensued when hooligans, believed to be Migori Governor Okoth Obado supporters, stormed the function disrupting the proceedings.

It was alleged that hooligans allied to Migori County Governor Okoth Obado unleashed the chaos effectively disrupting the rally.

Governor Obado is said to have been angered by the move by party leaders led by Governor Joho to open party offices in the county occupied by a team loyal to Ochilo Oyacko.

The party disciplinary committee fined Obado Ksh.2 million but he has since appealed the decision.
