Obama congratulates Trump on victory

President Barack Obama has congratulated Donald Trump on his win in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election.

Obama has also expressed his admiration for Clinton’s tireless efforts during campaigns, says the White House in a press statement released Wednesday, November 9.

“From the White House residence, the President phoned Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory early this morning. The President also called Secretary Clinton and expressed admiration for the strong campaign she waged throughout the country,” reads in part the White House press statement.

Obama will make a statement later Wednesday at the White House to discuss the election results and what steps U.S.A. will take to come together after the declaration of the U.S. Presidential election winner.

Obama has invited Donald Trump to meet with him at the White House on Thursday, November 10, to update Trump on the transition planning Obama’s team has been working on for nearly a year now.

“Ensuring a smooth transition of power is one of the top priorities the President identified as the beginning of the year and a meeting with the President-elect is the next step,” concludes the White House statement.

Donald Trump garnered over 275 of the electoral votes to emerge victorious, compared to Hillary Clinton’s 218.

Donald Trump is expected to be sworn in on January 20, 2017.
