Obama: Kenyan youth can make it here and now

President Barack Obama has said that there are no limits to what the youth can achieve in this country.

Speaking at Kasarani during an address to the nation, the US President said that the youth must take the lead.

“We are investing on the young people of Kenya. I am here as a friend who wants Kenya to succeed,” said Obama.

The US Head of State noted that the youth in the country today do not need to look overseas to achieve their dreams.

“Kenya has come from far. As a result of progress, you can build your future right here and right now,” stated Obama.

Obama termed Kenya as a hub for regional trade, adding that there is need to seize the moment.

“For too long, many looked to the outside for salvation, the future on Africa is up to Africans,” noted the American President. “Ultimately, we are each responsible for our destiny.”

President Obama reiterated the importance of entrepreneurship, saying that Kenyans need to focus on what they can do for themselves.

“Through the Young African Leaders Initiative, we are connecting young people to take Africa to new heights,” said Obama.

Entrepreneurship is a subject that the American President feels strongly about.

Speaking when he hosted the 6^th Global Entrepreneurship Summit on Saturday, President Obama noted that entrepreneurship means ownership and self-dependence.

“Entrepreneurship brings down barriers between communities and cultures,” said Obama.

Obama lauded Kenya’s progress, noting that Kenya is the largest economy in the east African region.

“Kenya is leading the way, this needs to be a future hub of global growth,” noted the US President. “We wanted to come here because Africa is on the move.”

Obama stated that there are incredible opportunities for Africa and the world.

“Let us encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship,” he stated, adding that it is harder for women, youth and marginalised communities.
