Obama says to hand over power ‘peacefully’ to Trump

Outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama congratulated his successor, President-elect Donald J. Trump, and vowed to work with his team to ensure a peaceful tradition of power transition.

“It is not secret that the president-elect and I have some pretty significant differences,” Obama said in his speech delivered at the White House.

The president said he would instruct his team to follow the example sent President George W. Bush’s team as they transitioned out of the White House.

Obama spoke shortly after Clinton delivered a concession speech in New York City congratulating Trump and urging supporters to remain engaged in the political process.
