Obamas brother criticised by Siaya for supporting Trump

Malik Obama’s resolution to support Republican candidate Donald Trump in the forthcoming US elections continues to elicit mixed reactions among the residents of Siaya County.

A section of the residents have condemned the decision by Malik terming it as a desperate move.

According to the residents settling personal and family scores at the expense of his brother’s reputation and career is a disgrace to the family and the Kenyan nation.

In an interview with Radio Ramogi, Siaya residents said according to the Luo culture, it is an abomination for a man to challenge his younger brother’s ruling.

Vivian Achieng’ and Florence Owako, resident of Ugunja, argued that Malik’s move would portray Kenya as a country that does not support U.S. President, Barrack Obama, despite him having his origin in Kogalo, Kenya.

Crispo Wauna of Siaya, however, said that Malik’s action was justified since America is a democracy and that he has the right to support a candidate of his choice.

Malik Obama had unsuccessfully contested for Siaya Gubernatorial seat in the 2013 General Election.

Siaya residents have declared that they would not vote for him if he comes back to vie for the same seat or any other elective position in the 2017 polls.
