Oburu Odinga to sue his cousin, Jakoyo Midiwo, over remarks
Nominated Member of National Assembly, Oburu Odinga, has threatened to sue Gem Legislator, Jakoyo Midiwo, over his remarks that he interfered in the just concluded Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries in Nyanza region, leading to rigging out of some aspirants.
Midiwo, who was floored by Elisha Odhiambo in Gem constituency primaries, said on Saturday, April 29 that Raila Odinga’s brother, Oburu Odinga, rigged in his cronies, helping in locking out the electorate’s preferred aspirants.
Oburu says that Midiwo’s remarks have dented his reputation, insisting that the only solution to the matter is to sue him so that he can substantiate his allegations in a court of law.
“Comments made by my brother that I went round and rigged elections have lowered my reputation in a society where I am very much respected. I am going to take him to court,” said Oburu.
Oburu, who was humiliated by incumbent Gideon Ochanda in Bondo ODM primaries ticket, also said that he was a victim of a shambolic nomination process that was marred with massive electoral irregularities.
“This is a constituency where I have been elected more than four times beating this Ochanda three times. How can I then get only 4,000 votes in nominations? What is more suspicious is that I got 4,000, I have never heard of such a square figure,” lamented Oburu Odinga.
