Odinga blasts President Kenyatta for welcome chaos

NASA leader Raila Odinga has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta for the chaos that marred his return from a 10-day US trip. Running battles and teargas were on the menu after police engaged his supporters in running battles throughout the day.

While addressing his supporters in Upper Hill, Nairobi after police blocked his procession from getting to their destinations; Uhuru Park and Kibera, Mr. Odinga accused the Jubilee government of using the police to harass him and his supporters.

While repeating his call that President Uhuru Kenyatta was not validly elected in last month’s repeat presidential election, Odinga expressed the coalition’s optimism that change will happen soon.

Drama started Friday morning when police prevented NASA supporters from accessing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive the opposition boss.

While they did manage to keep them off, once Mr. Odinga left the airport grounds, hundreds of his supporters were waiting outside and matched alongside his convoy for five hours while braving teargas and water cannons.

After failing to access Uhuru Park, the team decided to address their supporters at Upperhill where they blamed the president and police for the chaos.

Four people, among them a police officer were rushed to hospital with injuries.
