Odinga calls for a peaceful poll in Uganda

CORD leader Raila Odinga has called for a free, fair, transparent and peaceful election in Uganda as the country goes to the ballot on Thursday, February 18th, 2016.

He said that Uganda needs peace and stability for its future development adding that electoral transparency will dislodge violence and strengthen its political ties with Kenya.

The CORD leader appealed to the Government and the people of Uganda, the ruling party and the opposition to ratify a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process on pre-voting, voting and post-voting process.

He also appealed to the Government and the electoral authorities to ensure a conducive and secure environment to promote and enhance voters to peacefully cast their ballot.

“Security and crime prevention agencies need to support the process and ensure it is free of intimidation,” said Odinga.

Odinga challenged the youth to remain focused as the country’s future is dependent on the results and that they should stray away from and sternly refuse to be dragged into schemes that undermine that future.

Uganda is Kenya’s biggest trading partner in the region and shelters thousands of Kenyans in various professions and businesses hence its stability is vital and of utmost importance to Kenya.
