Odinga claims police killed 15

NASA leader Raila Odinga has accused the police of killing 15 NASA supporters during yesterday’s processions following his arrival from US.

Speaking at Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi, Raila condemned the police saying the brutality meted on their supporters was unnecessary since it was a peaceful procession aimed at welcoming him from the overseas trip.

“These needless brutality and deaths yesterday show us all once again that this Jubilee regime opposes democratic choice as it cannot compete against the rest of us,” said Raila.

Raila who had earlier visited the City Mortuary, said that he was saddened to witness how the lives of 15 young people were cut short, adding that three more bodies were taken Chiromo mortuary from yesterday’s chaos.

“Not a single one of you will be forgotten. You did not die in vain. You sacrificed your lives for the cause of democracy as it gave you the freedom to choose your leaders and determine the direction of your country,” the NASA leader said.

Citizen Digital could not however independently verify if all the bodies at City Mortuary were victims of the chaos that ensued between police and NASA supporters on Friday.

On Friday, the police claimed that five people died after they were stoned to death by enraged crowds for allegedly looting during chaos that marred parts of Nairobi County for the better part of the day.

In a statement, National Police Service spokesperson George Kinoti said that the incidences happened on Ladhies and Racecourse roads and the area near the Country Bus station.

Drama started Friday morning when police prevented NASA supporters from accessing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to receive the opposition boss.

While they did manage to keep them off, once Raila left the airport hundreds of his supporters were waiting outside and matched alongside his convoy for five hours braving teargas and water cannons.
