Odinga: Gov’t Is Trying To Muzzle Media

Odinga says skewed distribution of digital broadcast frequencies by Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) is an extension of attempts to punish and control local media.

In a statement from Hyderabad in India where he is touring, the former Premier noted government is engaging in efforts to consolidate power and business by curtailing media freedom and information flow.

This comes after CAK withdrew broadcasting license and frequencies awarded to Citizen TV, NTV and KTN.

Media owners and editors accused the body of high handedness and favoring foreign Pay TV channels Star Times and GOTV at the expense of the three top stations that command over 80% of local viewership.
