Odinga to plead for Machar release after SA house arrest

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is expected in South Africa next week for a charged political meeting with South Sudan’s Riek Machar.

According to news sources, Machar was placed under house arrest in South Africa ‘to stop him from starring trouble.’

Raila, who will act as mediator, has expressed confidence that separate talks with South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Machar will help reconcile them.

Mwanawa Peter Gatkuoth, Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) deputy head of the committee for information confirmed the meeting.

He told Radio Tamazuj in South Sudan that the rebels welcome Raila’s intervention and they look forward to bringing together the warring factions.

Gatkuoth also applauded Kenya’s President Kenyatta and his delegation for pushing for reconciliation in the country.
