ODM carries out successful nomination exercise in Migori

 

ODM party aspirant Alex Akugo will fly the party’s flag in the anticipated Central Kanyamkago ward by-election slated for March 2017 after emerging top in the hotly contested nomination exercise that attracted five candidates.

Mr Akugo emerged the top with a total of 1994 votes followed closely with Mr Ken Nyamita who garnered 1935 votes and emerged second.

Mr Daniel Oyugi came in third with 243 votes followed by Mr Paul Abayo and Godfrey Odera who garnered 84 and 72 votes respectively.

This means that Mr Alex Akugo will battle for the Central Kanyamkago ward seat with other candidates vying for the same seat on independent tickets and other parties.

The nomination exercise that kicked off at 6am culminated peacefully with other aspirants conceding defeat adding that the exercise was free and fair

Meanwhile, local leaders and electorate expressed satisfaction with the nomination exercise saying that it is an indication that the party is going to do a free and fair nomination.

Uriri Member of Parliament Hon John Kobado who was present at the tallying center said the manner in which the ODM party nomination has been conducted at Central Kanyamkago has brought confidence among aspirants eying ODM ticket in 2017.

His remarks were echoed by Migori County ODM party Chairman Mr Philip Makabongo who promised to ensure that other coming party nomination exercise are done in a free and fair manner.
