ODM defectors skip disciplinary proceedings citing security reasons

Thirteen Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party defectors among them Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya, his Marsabit counterpart, Ukur Yatani, and Budalangi Member of Parliament, Ababu Namwamba, among others have now been directed to appear before the party disciplinary committee at a city hotel on October 14, 2016.

Speaking at Orange House, the party’s disciplinary committee led by their chair Farah Maalim and Secretary General, Agnes Zani, said that they will follow the Political Parties Act diligently.

The directive came after the defectors, through their lawyer, Kioko Kilukumi, requested for a change of venue over what they termed as a more neutral ground for the disciplinary proceedings citing security reasons.

The leaders who defected to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party ahead of next year’s poll are expected to explain why they should not be removed from Orange Party’s membership list and consequently lose their elective political seats.

Though Kilukumi, the defectors insist they are still ODM members and willing to appear personally before the committee.

The defectors further wanted the committee to serve them with specific allegations against them.
