ODM highlights key issues ahead of Kisumu rally

Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho, will lead a team of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders to Kisumu for a host of meetings and a major rally to be held in the county.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, the deputy party leader said their focus as they head to Kisumu on Friday is to rally the people behind ODM and call for their support in the 2017 General Election.

The ODM brigade is set to meet ODM delegates and MCAs in the county and hold roadshows rallies on Friday in preparation for a major rally on Saturday, to be attended by party leader, Raila Odinga.

“The weekend’s activities, along with others that are going on, are not for fun but part of our mission and duty as a party to educate our supporters and Kenyans in general on why Jubilee must not get another term in office,” said Joho.

He accused Jubilee of putting in place “policies that have led to economic sabotage and impoverishing communities and regions that are perceived to be non-supportive.”

Joho also accused Jubilee of dividing the country and limiting appointments only to Jubilee supporters while overlooking non-supporters.

“Even Jubilee’s new logo – Uhuru and Ruto holding hands – shows it is about two people and their communities. But even those communities are beginning to realize they are being used for individual gains by the leaders and they are now asking questions.”

He also accused Jubilee of frustrating the Constitution, fighting devolution and the TJRC report.

“Corruption has reached levels never seen before even in our worst years. The President is unaware of what Kenyans are going through. If he is aware, then he does not care. That is why he does not understand why other people are not eating meat while he does.”

“Kenyans, especially the youth, are looking for opportunity, jobs, security, food, better standards of living and affordable life. People at the Coast are looking for land they can call their own. And they are looking for justice over long running historical injustices.”

He also faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta over the handling of Kenya Ports Authority affairs saying the local community had been overlooked in the appointments made.

On issues of fishing, Joho said the government was working in cohorts with Chinese enterprises in flooding the market with cheap fish imports at the expense of fishermen in the Lake Basin region.

“Rice is being imported from Pakistan in exchange for tea exports. That is economic sabotage.”

“It is for this reason that we take it as a duty to our nation to educate Kenyans that the Jubilee Government cannot be allowed another five years.”

“The country is tired and yearning for something new and better, for a more caring and humane leadership. The truth is things will not get better under Jubilee.”

Joho has been behind the organization of two major rallies – in Mombasa and Nairobi – both which have been termed a success.

Other leaders present in the briefing include Kisumu Governor, Jack Ranguma, his Senator, Anyang Nyong’o, and Suna East MP, Junet Mohamed.
