ODM leaders attack Mudavadi over visa claim about Uhuru-Odinga handshake

A section of ODM party leaders have condemned ANC party Leader Musalia Mudavadi over his recent claims on the origin of the handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Mudavadi, who on addressing a group of Kenyans in the diaspora in New Jersey, hinted that the handshake was a result of pressure from some Western countries that had threatened to cancel visas for the opposition leaders and their associates.

“The secret is that slowly visas were being cancelled. And when Visas are cancelled, they don’t just cancel yours alone. They cancel yours, that of your wife, children, and relatives. I want you to go home knowing that I, Musalia Mudavadi, do not believe in cheating you. I believe in telling you the truth. So what gave birth to a handshake is personal survival rather than patriotism,” he claimed.

The ANC party leader further said that the swearing in of Mr. Odinga as the people’s president on January 30, 2018 was motivated by personal survival and not patriotism.

Mudavadi’s remarks prompted opposition leaders led by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to come out guns blazing accusing him of being ignorant and in the dark about the handshake.

“Immediately Musalia Mudavadi boycotted the event (Odinga’s swearing in as people’s president), the trust that existed between him and Raila Odinga broke down irretrievably. Raila and ODM decided on that day to chart a new course without our so called coalition partners. Musalia does not know what happened from there on. He was in the dark and he remains in the dark,” said Sifuna.

“He knows nothing about that chapter of Kenya’s history and would be best advised not to parade his ignorance especially in far away lands,” added Sifuna.

ANC Nominated Member of Parliament Godfrey Osotsi said Mudavadi was speaking as a lone ranger.

“Recently, when NASA leaders were given an opportunity by the government to go and launch Huduma Namba he is among the people who were even facilitated to go and launch Huduma Namba. We even know and with time we will provide information that he is a beneficiary of the handshake,” said Osotsi.
