ODM leaders want Odinga’s security beefed up

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders from Siaya County now want the government to improve the security of CORD leader Raila Odinga following the hard-line stance he has maintained in the war against corruption in the country.

The leaders, led by former Alego-Usonga ODM chairman Mr Francis Adhiambo Faja, say Odinga deserves an improved security detail around him especially now that he has stood firm on the issue of Ksh 140 billion Eurobond scam.

Adhiambo said that Mr Odinga’s life might be at risk after he mentioned high profile individuals in regard to the Eurobond scam, hence the need to beef up his security.

In May 2014, it was alleged that the CORD leader had been forced to travel using a chartered flight instead of the commercial plane he had initially booked following a tip off that unknown people were monitoring his movements. The flight was rescheduled citing ‘security’ reasons.

Adhiambo has also appealed to the government to consider reinforcing the security of other CORD legislators, citing the recent case of Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi recording a statement after receiving life threatening messages.

He added that Kenya cannot be turned into a country where people live in constant fear.

Adhiambo made the remarks in Siaya Town saying that the security of such leaders should not be compromised especially as we approach the 2017 General Elections.

Last week, Wandayi who is also the ODM Party Secretary for Political Affairs, recorded a statement at Ugunja Police Station following some life threatening messages he claimed to had received.
