ODM links Uhurus advisor to procurement of fake ICC witnesses

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advisor Nancy Gitau prosecuted for allegedly procuring fake witnesses to testify against Deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a press briefing held on Wednesday, ODM chairperson John Mbadi said Gitau worked with Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria to procure the witnesses who would testify at The Hague in cases against Ruto and Sang.

ODM claimed that the on-going epiphany on the matter of ICC has realised the political impact of their actions would be detrimental and are thus on a plot to mitigate the damage.

ODM asked President Kenyatta to respond to Kuria’s claims of bribing ICC witnesses and the alleged fixing of Ruto at the ICC by the Party of National Unity (PNU).

The party pointed at close ties between Moses Kuria and President Uhuru Kenyatta saying the two have worked together since 2008 during the alleged bribing of witnesses to date as the president’s political assistant.

They further called for the prosecution of Kuria over allegations of witness bribery and tampering with a court process.

“The actions comprise crimes against the administration of justice and innocent citizens in both ICC and national statutes in Kenya.”

ODM claimed that, Nancy Gitau was a behind-the-scene manager of Kenyatta’s presidential campaign in 2012/13 adding that it was illegal since she was a public servant at the time.

“Uhuru Kenyatta cannot claim to be ignorant of what was being done by his own employees and disciples; Moses Kuria and Nancy Gitau.”

The party called on the Head of State to come forward and disapprove their allegations linking him with a well-orchestrated plan to fix Ruto saying Kenyans will only believe him if he sacks Kuria and Gitau and pushes for their prosecution.

The ICC case has been a hot topic of discussion in the past few weeks with both Moses Kuria and ODM party leader Raila Odinga trading accusations over the case facing Ruto.

While Kuria insists that Odinga and NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua fixed Ruto, the ODM leader says he would not fix the deputy president because he was in their team.

In a statement to newsrooms on Tuesday, ODM put the blame on the failed push to have the post-election violence cases tried locally on Parliament saying while they were pushing for a local tribunal, some Members of Parliament ensured it does not pass.

“We firmly supported the setting up of a local tribunal to deal with the post-election violence cases but strong opposition to this idea in parliament quashed the move,” said Odinga.

ODM also stated that it was hypocritical for leaders in Jubilee to accuse ODM leadership of fixing Ruto at the ICC since he was at the centre of their negotiations for a pact in Jubilee coalition government.

They claimed that Jubilee members should explain to Kenyans circumstances that took Ruto at ICC based on recent utterances by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria in relation to witness procurement.

ODM also accused President Kenyatta of playing a pivotal role in fixing his deputy William Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
