The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party officials in Migori County have appealed to the party’s National Elections Board to recognize the victory of former Sports Minister, Achilo Ayacko, in the contested gubernatorial primaries in the county.

Both Ayacko and the incumbent, Governor Okoth Obado, were announced as winners of the contest by different persons claiming to be the returning officers.

ODM chairman for Migori County, Philip Makabongo, said that Ayacko was announced the winner by the bonafide returning officer appointed by the party to oversee the entire process from voting to tallying of votes while Obado was declared winner by a person who only appeared at night during the tallying of votes.

Makabongo added that Samson Olala – the returning officer who declared Governor Obado the winner, could not approve the integrity of the vote.

Meanwhile, supporters of Nyatike Parliamentary aspirant, Fredrick Ogenga, now want him to contest as an independent candidate accusing ODM party of arm twisting their candidate who was announced as the winner by the returning officer on April 25 at the county tallying center.

The supporters said they are ready to vote him in as an independent candidate on August 8.
