ODM postpones primaries in Siaya County

The Orange Democratic Movement has postponed its party primaries slated for today (Monday) in Siaya County.

National Elections Board Chairperson Judith Pareno said the nominations will now be held tomorrow (Tuesday), coming barely a day after the Orange Party citing the security situation at the lakeside county of Kisumu pushed the nominations to tomorrow as well.

Kisumu County Returning Officer Tom Okong’o added that a few issues need to be ironed out before the primaries are conducted citing discomfort from aspirants that could spark chaos during the party nominations.

“On consultations with the general secretary for NASA Elections Board Dr Bob Arunga, we also agreed that due to confusions that are eminent and could cause chaos we postpone the election. I, therefore, as the returning officer, call off the Kisumu elections until advised by the National Elections Board and I advise that the National Elections Board must meet the aspirants of Kisumu,” he said.

Meanwhile, the exercise is at this hour set to kick off at Muslim Primary School in Migori County.

However, voting is yet to start in Homabay County even as queues are slowly building up ahead of the ODM party primaries.
