ODM spells out agenda for Mathare rally

ODM spells out agenda for Mathare rally

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has spelt out its agenda for Sunday’s rally to be held at Masinde Muliro grounds in Mathare.

According to ODM’s Director of Elections and Campaigns Junet Mohamed, the rally will be used to push for party leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid as well as highlight the flaws in the Jubilee Administration.

The Suna East MP further noted that the rally will also be used to demand for answers from the Jubilee Government in regards to the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report that highlights past injustices in different parts of Kenya that encompass the Wagalla Massacre and cases of land dispossession.

The matter of TJRC took centre stage at the late William Ntimama’s funeral service last week where Raila differed with National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale over the government’s willingness to implement the recommendations in the report.

Duale had in his address expressed the government’s commitment to see to it that the report was fully implemented; noting that once tabled before the House MPs would work on ensuring it is passed.

His pronouncement was however not received well by Mr Odinga who said that there is utter laxity by the government to implement the report.

“Mr Duale is deceiving us on the issue of TJRC report. Jubilee has been in power for four years and yet that have not shown any willingness to implement the report, what would make us believe that they would do so in their last days in office” he posed.

Other issues that are set to feature prominently in ODM’s rally include the scandals that have rocked the Jubilee Administration including Eurobond, National Youth Service and the Youth Enterprise Development Fund sagas.

“We have seen four years of empty promises and very good public relations. We in ODM don’t believe in high sounding words selling empty promises.”

“If the best days of our country were the grand coalition days, it is because ODM refused to take Kenyans or granted,” said Mr Junet.

According to ODM deputy party leader and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, the rally will also be used to consolidate the party’s support in Nairobi ahead of the next election.

Earlier in the week, there was a standoff between ODM and Jubilee after both parties claimed to have booked the same venue for their Sunday rally.

The issue was however resolved with Jubilee opting to hold their rally at Mlango Kubwa in Mathare Constituency.
