ODM supporter wants NASA deal quashed

A man has filed a petition in the High Court seeking to compel the Registrar of Political Parties to deregister NASA agreement over clause limiting Raila Odinga to one term in office.

Mr Reuben Odhiambo Miya, an ODM member, argued that the agreement violates Article 28 and 91 of the Constitution.

The ODM member argued that the provisions of the agreement seek to curtail and restrict his political rights as guaranteed in the Constitution after NASA principals amended the previous the deal which was filed with the Registrar of Political Parties on February 22 this year

Mr Miya claims that the February 22 deal stipulated that the coalition shall field a presidential candidate and a running mate but it was amended on April 27 after the coalition nominated a presidential candidate.

Further, he claimed that the amended clause limited the nominated presidential candidate in the August 8 General Election shall not be eligible to run for a second term and that a presidential candidate shall be from a NASA coalition party other than ODM.
