ODM to unveil aspirants for Kibra MP seat on Sunday

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is set to unveil prospective Kibra MP candidates on Sunday at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi.

A statement from ODM said the event will be led by party leader Raila Odinga.

“As a part of the plans for the Kibra Constituency by-election campaigns, the ODM party leader is inviting all the party supporters and voters to the Kamukunji grounds rally in Kibra,” ODM Communication Director Dennis Onyango said.

The seat fell vacant after MP Ken Okoth succumbed to cancer on July 26 this year.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requires that any political party intending to participate in the Kibra by-election submit names of candidates for nominations before August 26.

Aspiring candidates will be given time to articulate their agenda for the constituency before the voters.

Nominations are set for September 9 and 10.

The campaigning period also commences on September 9 to end on November 4.

“Campaign time shall run from 7am to 6pm during the campaign period,” said IEBC.

So far, 20 aspirants have declared their interest in the by-elections scheduled for November 7.
