In Summary

  • Ole Kina was on Monday elected CPAIC chair after garnering 5 votes against Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri’s 4, replacing his outgoing Homa Bay counterpart Moses Kajwang.
  • The Narok legislator’s win was however short lived as Minority Leader and Siaya Senator Orengo wrote a protest letter.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has launched a bid to remove Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina from the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC) four days after he was elected the chairperson.

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo, in a letter to the Speaker dated May 6, also notified of discharge and removal of the Narok Senator from the Senate Business Committee in accordance with standing order 190.

Ole Kina was on Monday elected CPAIC chair after garnering 5 votes against Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri’s 4, replacing his outgoing Homa Bay counterpart Moses Kajwang.

The Narok legislator’s win was however short lived as Minority Leader and Siaya Senator Orengo wrote a protest letter expressing “dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the elections.”

“We intend to withdraw our membership from the said committee until an appropriate resolution can be made,” added Orengo.

The tough-talking Ole Kina has since however dismissed Orengo and ODM’s attempt to kick him out saying the letter has “no basis and must be treated with contempt.”

Ole Kina, in a series of tweets posted on Thursday, further warned that the standoff “is about to get nasty.”

CPAIC is a committee tasked with oversighting the expenditure of billions of shillings given to all 47 counties under the Division of Revenue and other conditional grants.
