ODM wants Ukambani leaders to unite ahead of 2017 polls

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has now moved to arrest the disquiet among leaders in Ukambani region, which is part of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD).

ODM national chairman and Suba Member of Parliament John Mbadi called on the Kambas to remain united and ignore leaders who are out to divide the community ahead of the 2017 General Elections.

Speaking at a funeral of the late John Kilonzo, who was the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Mosangaleni Ward, Kibwezi East, Mbadi called on the electorate to ignore leaders and voices that have intentions of dividing them in a bid to bring disharmony in the community.

The deceased was found dead in a hotel in Mtito-Andei town a week ago and the cause of death is yet to be established.

Mbadi’s sentiments were echoed by Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr., who said that he does not recognize the Maendeleo Chapchap Movement under the leadership of Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and warned him against making any more tours to Makueni County.

He urged Governor Mutua to respect other elected leaders and their areas of jurisdiction.

There has been disquiet in the Ukambani region following claims that Governor Mutua was already planning to take on former Vice President and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the region’s leadership.

On the just ended teachers’ strike and the pay rise row pitting teachers against the government, Mutula said that teachers have been given a raw deal and history would judge the jubilee administration harshly for mistreating teachers.

He called on Parliament to move a motion that would reduce the money and budget in the Ministry of Devolution to pay teachers.

MP Daniel Maanzo said that the biggest problem in Kenya was corruption and called on Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to step aside for investigations following allegations of graft facing her and the National Youth Service (NYS).
